Profile

Dr Gumley completed undergraduate study at Sydney University in 1975, and Orthopaedic Surgery training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association Training Programme. He undertook specialty Hand and Microsurgery fellowship training at the Princess Margaret Rose Hospital, Edinburgh, the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and the Microsurgery Research Centre, St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne from 1982 to 1985. In 1986 Dr Gumley joined the staff of the Lahey Clinic, Boston where he was Vice-Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery and Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Boston University until 1997. He then moved to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to establish a surgery training program at a new charity hospital, the Sihanouk Hospital Centre of HOPE, which he directed from 1999 until 2003 while providing reconstructive hand surgery to adults and children. He returned to Sydney in 2003 and is currently appointed at Sydney Adventist Hospital, San Day Surgery Hornsby, Liverpool Hospital, Sydney Hospital, Sydney Private Hospital and Sydney South West Private Hospital. Dr Gumley is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the NSW Hand Surgery Association, and is an Associate Professor at the University of NSW.

Research

Dr Gumley's research interests include Rheumatoid Arthritis Surgery, Wrist Arthroscopy, and Nerve compression syndromes.
